Thanks to the generous support of the AAPP Foundation, AAPP Past Presidents’ Destiny Fund, and AAPP members, 19 PharmD students from 16 different colleges of pharmacy have been awarded $235 registration grants to attend AAPP 2024 in Orlando, Florida! Recipients were highly recommended and selected based on the merits of their applications.
Applicants were required to submit a personal essay describing their interest in AAPP and psychiatric pharmacy. Please enjoy this excerpt of the essay by grant recipient, Nicole Zachwieja:
“As I prepare for this year’s annual meeting, my main objectives include gaining presentation experience, enhancing my understanding of psychiatric/neurologic pharmacotherapy, and connecting with practicing psychiatric pharmacists. In collaboration with a classmate and faculty mentor, we've submitted an abstract on implementing and evaluating the impact of a Peer Support Program within our school of pharmacy. I look forward to presenting our work as a poster and sharing our experiences. Looking through the meeting programming schedule, I am so excited by the topics of the planned sessions, and I cannot wait to attend and learn as much as I possibly can in four short days. However, I am most looking forward to meeting new people, building connections, and exploring the diverse opportunities in psychiatric pharmacy. Particularly, a classmate and I are doing an independent study (out of pure interest) in harm reduction this semester; we are looking forward to having the opportunity to identify and chat with at least one psychiatric pharmacist who works in substance use disorder treatment. In summary, my pharmacy school experience has been molded by a program that values raising empathetic future pharmacists, my active involvement in AAPP, and my passion for psychiatric pharmacy. Looking ahead to this year's AAPP meeting, my objectives mirror my commitment to learning, presenting, and networking- a continuation of my dedication to becoming an impactful psychiatric pharmacist."

The AAPP Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the third annual Collegiate Chapter Impact Grant Awards. After a thorough evaluation process, the grant committee selected two chapters to receive funding. The collegiate chapter award recipients are as follows (in alphabetical order):
- Duquesne University AAPP Collegiate Chapter, Project Leader: Elise Hreha: Analyzing the Mental Health of Pharmacy Students Before and After the Use of a Relaxation Room
- The East Tennessee State University AAPP Collegiate Chapter, Project Leader: Colton Jones: Unveiling Stigma in Healthcare: An Exploration of Student Pharmacists', Nurses' and Physicians' Attitudes Towards Mental Illness
AAPP Collegiate Chapters are having a substantial impact on their peers, institutions, and communities. The AAPP Foundation is impressed and encouraged by the submissions from student chapters and applauds all students and chapter advisors who are working to make a difference in their communities.
Award recipients will present posters at the AAPP 2024 Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, April 7-10, 2024. Additionally, chapter representatives will give presentations during the Collegiate Chapter Meeting on Sunday, April 7 with recordings ultimately living on the AAPPF website.
A requirement of the Collegiate Chapter Impact Grant program is that the project should address one or more of the following goals: impact patient care, address mental health disparities, create awareness of psychiatric pharmacists and their value and contributions as members of the interprofessional treatment team, expand interest in psychiatric pharmacy as a career, and/or reduce the stigma related to mental health and substance use disorders. The AAPP Foundation anticipates offering this program again in 2024 with applications due September. COVID-19 Care Grants are the result of generous gift from donor Joni Fowler, PharmD, BCPP. The goal of the grant program is to fund research that will help define the future of psychiatric pharmacy practice and improve the care of patients with psychiatric and neurologic disorders during the COVID-19 pandemic. The CPNP Foundation is proud to once again provide financial and logistical support to bring Mental Health First Aid to the CPNP 2020 Annual Meeting. The 8-hour course will be offered over two days, April 25-26, 2020, at the Hyatt Regency Dallas hotel. Attendance is limited to 60 participants.
Mental Health First Aid is a nationally-offered, 8-hour course that teaches participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Following the training, participants will receive a certificate from Mental Health First Aid USA acknowledging certification which is valid for 3 years. Participants with a PharmD will also be able to earn 8 hours of ACPE credit through the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). Mental Health First Aid will be available to participants of all levels, however, individuals who are trained in mental health will find the information to be basic.
A modest registration fee will be required to attend Mental Health First Aid training at CPNP 2020. Registration will be available soon and will conclude when 60 individuals have registered or on March 26, 2020, whichever comes first.

The CPNP Foundation is proud to announce the continued funding of student registration and travel grants to CPNP’s Annual Meeting. Thanks to CPNP Foundation donors, the number of grants available for CPNP 2020 has increased to allow up to 25 students to attend the Annual Meeting April 26-29, 2020 in Dallas, Texas!
The online application portal is open, and all applications are due January 15, 2020. To be eligible, a student applicant must be a full-time pharmacy student in pursuit of her/his first professional pharmacy degree, a paid student member of CPNP in good standing, and must not have previously received this grant. A full list of grant criteria can be found online.
The CPNP Student Committee will facilitate the grant selection process after the application deadline, and notifications will be sent by February 12, 2020. Each student recipient will receive a full student registration to the 2020 CPNP Annual Meeting ($300 value) and a $200 travel stipend. These grants are possible because of the generous support of CPNP members and the CPNP Past Presidents’ Destiny Fund, which specifically supports student registration and travel grants.

The results of a CPNP Foundation-sponsored study about stigma and community pharmacists have been published in the International Journal of Clinical Pharmacy. The paper, Community pharmacists and mental illness: a survey of service provision, stigma, attitudes and beliefs, is the culmination of a research project between the Foundation and collaborators at Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy.

Led by Dr. Vincent Giannetti, the team sought to explore community pharmacists’ knowledge of and attitudes toward mental illness, comfort and confidence in dealing with persons with mental illness, and the services they provide to this patient population.

Defining the Future Grants are awarded annually. Applications are due late summer, and recipients are announced in early October. Pharmacy students, residents, and fellows are eligible to apply. Now is the time to start thinking about your research project and planning to submit it for consideration for a 2018 Defining the Future Grant.

The CPNP Foundation is pleased to announce that they will support students at the 2018 CPNP Annual Meeting, April 22-25, 2018, in Indianapolis, IN. The Foundation will offer 20 student registration and travel grants valued at $500 each as well as an 8-hour course that offers participants the chance to become Mental Health First Aid certified.
Students interested in being awarded a registration and travel grant should apply online by January 17, 2018. To be eligible, a student applicant must be a full-time pharmacy student in pursuit of her/his first professional pharmacy degree, a paid student member of CPNP in good standing, and they must not have previously received this grant.
Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour training developed to teach participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it helps trainees identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. The course will be offered to students over two days, April 21-22, and registration will be available starting in November.
